I’m excited to apply for your Graphic Designer position!

As an experienced designer, I’d love to be a part of your Marketing team to promote your unique services. I understand the Packlane brand and vision – versatile, quality, approachable, and playful. That’s why I’m confident I can do this job well and be the next member of the Packlane family.

I have extensive experience in print design, production and concept development. I’m also a letterpress printer, so I really appreciate a tactile experience. I’ve been employed as a Graphic Designer for over 10 years working on print and online media campaigns. I’m a focused self-starter who always meets deadlines and am passionate about my work. I work well within a team and have overseen junior designers in an agency setting. I’m comfortable working with clients and presenting my work. I take direction well and can apply feedback quickly.

As you’ll see in my portfolio, I have worked for a variety of companies, large and small, and started my own company, Harken Press, creating bridal stationery and letterpress products. I’m looking to make a change and know that I can apply my varied experience to create fresh and fun packaging for the Packlane brand and your customers.

My Current Job(s): 
I currently work part-time for a spa and cosmetics brand, designing all of their campaigns and applying it to their website, social media and advertising. I also own my own letterpress stationery company, Harken Press. I’ve been in the wedding stationery industry for many years and am looking for a change.

I’m happy that I’ve had a flexible schedule and workplace – I’ve been working remotely from home for the past 7 years. Now I’m looking for more consistency now. I’m a mother of two wonderful little girls and am looking for steady full-time work.

Why I Want to Work at Packlane: 
I know the importance of creating a brand experience. It’s so powerful. Packlane offers such a needed service for companies, especially small companies, that need to make an impact and impress. I’d like to be a part of that. It’s also fun work!

I’ve saved countless well-designed product packages, just because I enjoy them. Don’t even get me started on the countless purchases I’ve made based on packaging alone. That’s the power of design and I love it!

Most importantly, I’m fit for the job. I have all the qualities you’re looking for and extensive experience in print, web and email design.

Areas of Packlane I Would Improve: 
It’s safe to say there’s always room to improve the experience for the customer and the end-user. As designers we need to constantly ask where we can close gaps, leverage insights and open new opportunities.

I believe my background in letterpress makes me uniquely qualified in pushing the tactile experience an end-user will have. I really love paper. And more importantly I love someone experiencing the thought that went into a package.

I also think real customer success stories or case studies would help entice companies to invest in new packaging. Showing packaging before and after images, along with statistics is always powerful content. These stories could also be shared on social media highlighting the importance of well designed packaging and showcasing what Packlane can do. 

A Great Designer Should Be…

  • A Good Communicator: I’ve learned over the years that being a good communicator is crucial. We can’t read each other’s minds. Setting expectations so everyone is on the same page from beginning to end. Checking in and giving updates are always appreciated.

  • Organized: That means lists, calendars, alerts, and clean file management.

  • Self Motivated: Working remotely requires self motivation and reliability. No hand holding required.

  • Creative: Of course, a ton of creativity is required in our field, but that’s a given. It’s how you apply your creativity that counts. Artists are creative; designers apply creativity with a meaning.

  • A Team Player: Being able to hear constructive criticism and apply it effectively is a skill. I have no problem checking my ego at the door. 

My Unique Advantages:

  • I’m a letterpress printer. I restored my 1956 Heidelberg press that weighs over 3,000 lbs. I lovingly call it “The Beast”.

  • I’ve worked remotely from my home office for 7 years.

  • My family. I want my two daughters to see their Mom enjoying her work, being driven, continually learning and improving, and having a badass career. “I’m not a regular Mom, I’m a cool Mom.”

  • Working in the stationery industry has helped me to identify design trends early on and apply them to products. See more in my Shop.

Random Facts About Me:

  • I was born in New Jersey, grew up in Louisiana, lived in California for 8 years, and just moved to Texas. Howdy y’all! 

  • In 5th grade I was chosen from my school to be in a regional TV commercial. My husband loves to show all our friends the really embarrassing video.

  • I love any kind of dress-up theme party, singing duets with my husband (we both sound absolutely terrible), and painting with my toddler.
